Apparently one of the most brilliant people on earth, Stephen Hawking, thinks we're all royally screwed.
In a June 13 speech in Hong Kong, Hawking said the survival of the human race depends on its ability to find new homes elsewhere in the universe because there's an increasing risk that a disaster will destroy Earth.He said that if humans can avoid killing themselves in the next 100 years, they should have space settlements that can continue without support from Earth.
This week, he posted this question to humanity on Yahoo Answers:
- ''In a world that is in chaos politically, socially and environmentally, how can the human race sustain another 100 years?''
I'm still working on grasping sustainable development--now we're already going to have to take on sustainable survival? hopefully we can. at least someone is using apocalyptic terms that don't rely on the tired rhetoric of one specific religion or political or environmental group to draw attention, but that apply to any and all of us because as he says, they are all in chaos, and we all need to stop making excuses for whatever we think is fine, when nothing really is. any takers?

i think that humans are very capable of saving ourselves, but much in the same way that a child or teenager would save themselves from getting into trouble, meaning they will wait until they are really fucked, like without a doubt bad news, and then paniked about their parents finding out pull their shit together and ferris bueller their way out of it. just wait, when some metoer is heading for earth while we aere in the midst of insane weather patters and some new virus we'll bueller our way out of it too, i hope.
